Book thief
William Simon Jacques appeared in court yesterday for a committal hearing; he did not apply for bail (presumably after his two-year bail-jump last time around that would have been instantly denied). Local media
reports note that Jacques will next be in court on 25 February, when he will enter a plea in the case.
Jacques stands accused of stealing Ambroise Verschaffelt's Nouvelle Iconographie des Camellias (1849-1860), a set totaling 13 volumes and worth £40,000-50,000, from the library of the Royal Horticultural Society.
