Kim Martineau's got another bang-up tale of book thievery in the Hartford Courant today, this one with a whiff of cross-border intrigue. She reports that Nora Thompson and Peter Mason King were arrested in Toronto in October after being seen on surveillance footage lifting rare books from The Avenue Ltd., an antique and art shop in Westport, CT. The duo were reselling the books to Toronto dealer "D & E Lake Ltd., according to police. Investigators also uncovered evidence that the duo also had been stealing from the Toronto dealer and pawning off the items at irresistible prices back to Phelps-Wyant in Westport, police said."
It is unclear just how much the couple snagged and how many other shops they visited, the paper notes.
