On Monday, 5 October, Terry Belanger will deliver a talk, "Eating the Seed Corn: Deaccessioning Rare Books" at the University Club, 800 Powell Street in San Francisco. The Book Club of California is sponsoring the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. (refreshments will be served prior to the talk).
From the announcement: "There are both good and bad ways for a library to deaccession rare books and related materials. The University of San Francico's 'recent excavations in its rare book room provide a notable example of a bad way. What should USF have done?'" That incident, of course, is the one referred to in my posts "Selling off Rare Books to Pay the Bills?" and "Deaccessioning, Redux."
