OUP on Libraries

Oxford University Press is offering free access to Oxford Reference Online this week, and they're kicking it off with a scavenger hunt of library trivia. Great questions, too - have fun!

I would be the last person to minimize the importance of good reference materials, but I can't help but reflect on the significance of the fact that I was able to answer 9 of the 10 questions very easily on Google. (I came up empty on the Supreme Court Library question, and I suspect I could find it if I spent more time.) It doesn't exactly make for the most compelling demonstration of the essentialness of their services, although I'm sure such a demonstration could be made. (For example, I've been making extremely good use of the DNB to write the labels for my Samuel Johnson exhibition.)

Yeah, I agree, the questions certainly aren't the trickiest (and your experience just proves the power of Google as a pretty darn useful reference source) - but at least they're trying, right :-)
