I missed this earlier, but just ran across a link to Chris Wilson's 31 December Slate piece, "Who Checks the Spell-Checkers?" It's a look into the murky word of Microsoft Word-pseudo-lexicography, and how it differs from other, automated web dictionaries like those implemented by Google and in Microsoft's own Live Search.
